1. Jet Towel Hand Dryer
The interesting thing is not this hand dryer, but they don’t offer tissue for drying hands beside the sink in this restroom. In my first thinking, I thought this is a good idea to reduce the waste of paper. But after a while, I thought this makes another issue of what is real sustainable. When people use this jet towel hand dryers, they save paper. But on the contrary, these hand dryers emission lots of carbon dioxide. So we should think more about which way is good for globe before we design something.
2. Share your ideas
I really like this board which visitors could write down their ideas for doing sustainable. I saw a lot of interesting message like being Amish, taking BMW which means Bart, Muni and walk or using less toilet paper(use your hands???) . But what I want to say is that Academy of science really present sustainable entirely. When I flipped these tags over, I found out that they are made out of waste paper from the commercial printing process.
3. Blue jean insulation
Conventional demolition and building practices use a lot of natural resources and create a lot of waste. When the old Academy building was torn down in 2004, 90 percent of the materials were recycled in new construction projects instead of going to landfills. Also, in this building, another interesting material that they used is blue jean. Some of walls are filled with denim scrap. This material saves energy and is a safe and sustainable alternative to fiberglass insulation. It is a pretty good idea for recycling and reusing!!

the blue jean insulation and the share your idea board were both things i also liked as well! i liked the fact that they attempted to find a way to get the public involved in thinking about living more sustainably.
